FEATURED SCHOLARSHIP

Willcox Savage Scholarship

The first Willcox Savage Scholarship was awarded in 2022. Created by the law firm Willcox Savage, the scholarship is available for African American/Black law students or students from other historically marginalized racial or ethnic groups who are long-time Virginia residents enrolled in a juris doctor program. Preference shall be given to first-year law students, students attending a law school in Virginia, and/or students from Hampton Roads.

Congratulations! You've chosen a key focus for your advanced studies and your profession. We hope we can help you ease some of your financial costs of graduate school.

Charitable people across Hampton Roads have supported graduate, medical and theological scholarships through the Hampton Roads Community Foundation since 1950. We administer scholarships for studies in a number of fields or for students at certain colleges or from specific places.

Here are three examples of the variety of advanced studies scholarships we administer:

  • Alice Jaffe started a scholarship in 1994 in memory of her husband Louis, a Norfolk editorial page editor with a passion for equal rights. The Louis I. Jaffe scholarship helps Norfolk State University alumni to attend graduate school at any college or university.
  • Florence Smith left a bequest in 1952 to start a scholarship for long-time Virginia students that is going strong today for students in the medical doctor programs at the University of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University and Eastern Virginia Medical School.
  • Dr. Gwendolyn Moss started a scholarship in 2014 in memory of her mother Rev. Dr. Joyce G. Moss that is for students at Regent University School of Divinity.

Thanks to generous donors who believe in education we've been able to distribute more than $22 million in scholarships since 1950 -- more than $1.4 million for the 2022-23 school year alone.

If we're able to grant you a graduate school scholarship in the coming year, you'll be one of 400+ students in U.S. colleges and universities being helped by one of our donors in the coming academic year.

The best way for that to happen is to read our list of Graduate, Medical & Theological Scholarships and then How to Apply. And, don't forget to review Scholarship Resources & FAQ.

Good luck!
