Meet Andrew Stone, a Virginia Tech student from Virginia Beach who is being helped this year by the D.A. Taylor Memorial Scholarship. Taylor's friends created the scholarship fund in his memory.

Thanks to our generous donors, the Hampton Roads Community Foundation is the largest scholarship provider in Hampton Roads. Since 1951 donors who have created more than 70 permanent scholarship funds. Each has unique criteria set by the donors.

This year more than 390 students are attending college this year with help from more than $1.1 million in Foundation scholarships -- the most awarded in a single year.

Applications for most of the 2014-15 academic year were due February 28, 2014.
