Overview
We help students achieve their dreams. Since 1951 scholarships provided by generous donors have helped more than 3,600 of people attend college. This year more than 338 students are attending college with help from $895,407 in scholarships.

Each year we award scholarships from more than 55 permanent funds started by people committed to helping students reach their goals. Some donors create scholarships for certain fields of study such as engineering, medicine or social work. Others start scholarships for students from certain cities or attending specific colleges or universities. Each year we review applications and select students who meet the specific criteria for our various scholarship funds.

To apply for a scholarship, start by selecting the link for your level of study for the coming fall semester:

  1. Scholarships for Undergraduate Education
  2. Scholarships for Graduate or Medical Education

In addition to the scholarships linked above, we administer other scholarships awarded only through recommendations by a selection committee or other organization named by donors.   Please also check our Other Scholarships page to see if you match any of the criteria listed there for other scholarships we administer.

We can help if you are interested in exploring ways you can help students with scholarships.

We welcome gifts of all sizes to any existing scholarship fund or to the Community Fund for Scholarships. With a gift of $25,000 or more you can create a permanent named scholarship fund that will help many generations of students.  To explore ideas for starting a scholarship fund, contact Nan Edgerton, vice president of development.

To help more students attend college, you can give online, send a check or arrange for a future gift for scholarships through your will or other estate plans.

Did a Scholarship Help You?
Are you among the 3,600 people helped by scholarships from the Hampton Roads Community Foundation, The Norfolk Foundation or The Virginia Beach Foundation? If so, please let us know how you are changing the world. Since 1950 our generous donors have provided more than $15 million in scholarship funds to help students.

Dr. SchulwolfFlorence Smith (above right) died in 1951, but her dream helping Virginia students pay for medical school is alive. She would be amazed at the nearly 700 physicians who have benefitted from her gift -- 20 of them currently receiving Smith Scholarships. Read more.
