Unrestricted Funds
An unrestricted fund lets you benefit your community in inifinite ways. With at least a $25,000 gift, you can start a permanent fund that grows over time. By setting it up with no strings attached, your fund gives our board of directors the opportunity to award grants to many nonprofits and to meet needs that change over time.

Each quarter our board reviews proposals from area nonprofits and awards grants from unrestricted funds created by generous donors like you.

Dorothy Redwood Cooke Sutherland Fund

For the late Dorothy Sutherland civic responsibility was a way of life inspired by her community-minded family. She volunteered with and donated to numerous nonprofits in Hampton Roads, including the Virginia Symphony and Eastern Virginia Medical School. Before she died in 2006 the Virginia Beach resident created an unrestricted fund to provide grants to a variety of nonprofits doing significant work in Hampton Roads. Sutherland liked seeing her fund doing good and knowing that it would help people forever.
