In 2009 William A. Goldback, a Norfolk business owner with diabetes, established a field-of-interest fund for medical services, education or research. Today, a three-year $81,500 community foundation grant to the Chesapeake Care Clinic from the William A. Goldback Fund is helping low-income Chesapeake residents like Loretta Chandler manage diabetes.

The donation will create two Maury Foundation Scholarship funds, including one named for the late Oscar Ferebee (class of 1936). Both endowed funds will provide scholarships for Maury High School graduates at four-year colleges or universities.
