On Tuesday, June 25 at the Chesapeake Conference Center, more than 300 people gathered for a business forum, the 2019 Talent Alignment Strategy. Through a special presentation and panel discussion, they agreed that educational and career development programs are critical to the attracting and retaining businesses in the region. Strong businesses impacting the entire local economy and help improve the quality of life for residents.

Attorney Michael Hamar who created the permanent endowment fund for the George D. and Marion Phelps Hamar HRBOR Scholarship here in 2011. Michael wanted to pay tribute to his parents and also to Hampton Roads Business OutReach (HRBOR). Michael co-founded HRBOR in 2007 as our region's LGBTQ business chamber.

Families and friends often shy away from controversial topics at the dinner table. That is precisely the place that author and educator Dr. Beverly D. Tatum encourages families and communities to discuss race, race relations and racial inequities.

Frances M. Facchini enjoyed helping others, which she will be doing forever because of the charitable bequest she left to the Hampton Roads Community Foundation for scholarships at Old Dominion University.

In an effort to address the stigma around mental illness and to highlight available resources, the Hampton Roads Community Foundation recently hosted a community forum on Children’s Mental Health.

Seton Youth Shelter, which charges clients nothing, is among 30 Hampton Roads Community Foundation grant recipients helping prevent, intervene or re-engage disconnected youth and young adults.

The foundation is helping create a more inclusive and equitable community in Hampton Roads.
